Skype mobile on Hermes

A lot of you out there would have already known this by now.
But for people using PPCs with ARM 9 v4 Processor (32bit Samsung: S3C2410, SC32442 and S3C2440, or IntelStrong ARM SA-1110) cannot use Skype Mobile their devices to make calls. Yes - Skype officially does not support its Mobile version on these devices. You can still however chat.

I have T-Mobile MDA Vario II (HTC Hermes) and always wanted to leverage its Wi-Fi and T-Mobile's 3G internet capabilities to talk to people abroad for free without having to stay glued in front of the screen for hours with geeky looking headsets... And after a lot of installing and uninstalling and reseting I have finally managed to found out a version of Skype PPC that should work on MDA Vario II. Frankly - I am not too impressed with its quality - but never the less I can talk. Moreover never was I expecting it to sound good like it does your broadband connection.

There are other VoIP options like Fring, but thats a topic for another post.

-copy the cab to your ppc
-uninstall any skype versions you have installed on your Hermes
-run the .cab and install the app.

Have fun! Talk for free!
